Maundy Thursday: The Servant King — Holy Week at Victory Alabang
The Servant King
Maundy is a Latin word for commandment. On the day we call Maundy Thursday, Jesus washed His disciples' feet and gave them a commandment.
You call me Teacher and Lord, and you are right, for so I am. If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet. For I have given you an example, that you also should do just as I have done to you.
— John 13:13-15
How can we reflect on Maundy Thursday?
The lives of royalty can be fascinating. They used to show up to places in carriages! They dressed in crowns and gowns, even the way they waved to people and ate and drank was different. Royalty have power and political influence. They serve and protect their nation but their subjects must still serve them all their lives.
Jesus is the Servant King. On this Maundy Thursday, as we commemorate the commandment He entrusted His disciples with, we look to Jesus who is the perfect example of love, humility, and service. Because Jesus served, we ought to do the same.
Reflection
Today, how can we love and serve like Jesus?
